A Summary Of - Perou

Perous style reflects the person he is taking the photo of , his portraits are simple and demonstrate the individuals personality and individuality he has a certain flare to his work that is hard for others to shadow or copy.

His technique is to take the photo regarding how his subject(person's) personality and the way they act making it a very realistic portrayal of the subject rather than making them pose less naturally which could frame them in a different light which does not portray them in such a realistic light.Because of this his technique does vary slightly to adapt to the person he is taking the photo of which I think is a real talent as he manages to create amazing photos of some of the most famous people of the 21st century.This also leads nicely into narrative as the same applies to that as well that he "narrates" the photo by using the individuals characteristics and personality to make the photo unique to them.

The context of Perou is :individuality,creativity,fun and simplicity which is why with these techniques, style and his context make him such a excellent photographer and great to study.

These are some photos i have taken in the style of perou

I found it quite hard to get into his mind and picture the way he takes his photos but here are my attempts

The first 10 are styled like Perous portraiture and how they reflect the persons characteristics and mannerisms, the first few of Holly show a playful fun and cute side with the prop of her animal hat.

The ones of James show his passion for music (and Lady Gaga especially!) this also i think reflects James as a person and how I see him which helped me to take the photos of him and Holly too!

The one of James with the rubber duck is similar to the photo Perou has taken of the man with the eagle on his arm, unfortunately I did not have an eagle handy so we used a rubber duck to show this!

The last two are taken how in the style of his portraits from 'Dirty Sexy Things' The woodland creates an eery and mysterious style to the photos similar to the ones Perou took.



I enjoyed taking photos in the style of Perou as i like his work best out of all of the photographers that we studied.

Individual Photographer Research - Perou

Ralph John Perou is a fashion music and portrait photographer from Great Britain and he is now featured on dirty sexy things , he is becoming more and more popular,Here are some different examples of his work:

I like the style of this Photographer , the photos are well composed portraits that show a shallow depth of field I like how they also show the celebrity's charecter very well eg: Lily Allen(Top Left) and (back of head , bottom right) shows her slightly outspoken and wild personality.Jessie J (middle,top row) has a very simple and classic photograph framing her as a fun and happy charecter with little worries.They show Jay-Z in a more harsher and darker light the hood is hiding one of his eyes and nearly all of the other eye, it is quite a contrasting image and portrays a harsher nature on Jay-Z which fits in well with his public "image".
The next photo is of Kid Cudi they show him as more of a free creative yet still formal character. The photo is on a white background that gives a endless depth of field.The next one of Perou himself in the American Flag Style onesie.This shows an arty and creative nature tied in with a well composed and thought out photo.The next one of the Artic Monkeys displays a very balanced photo with a moody slightly unwelcoming but still well thought out photo which shows the bands style and also their music style very well.

Peaches Geldof (bottom left) shows a playful yet stylish nature,with the Mickey Mouse style ears and costume but still manages to pull off a stylish way with her positioning and her styling.
The next photo in the woods from Dirty Sexy Things shows a dramatic and fantasy style photograph.
The next photo frames Sienna Miller in a simple classy way,much like her making it look effortless.

All of these photos show the individuals as unique people capturing not just a photo of them but an entire summary of their personality.I like his use of colour and overall I liked Perous work best out of the four photographers that we studied.

Focal Point

Focal Point forms a sharp image of a subject this can be a macro ( close up photo) or the first thing that someone sees when they look at the photo, it is the thing that you will be instantly drawn to.

I like this photo as you are led to the girl blowing the balloon straight away,i like the pastel colours and the way you instantly draw your eye to her.This is not a macro photograph and there is a very shallow depth of field but the photo is well composed and it is effective as she is the first and the last thing you see when you look at the photo,all in all this is a simple and pretty photo!

Depth Of Field

 Depth of field is the distance corresponding with the sharpnes of the picture.
This photo of the flowers has a shallow depth of field as the front is sharp and the black is blurred.

FACTUAL: This photo is by Annie Leibovitz of the disney princess Cinderella

I like this photo as it has a strong deep depth of field the steps give this depth in a very clever wayleading up to the well lighted castle, though Cinderella is the main focus of the photo after you have studied her your eye drifts backwards to the castle making the depth very good , this photo tells a story very well and i really like the way it is composed and the lighting and the depth.

Lighting

Lighting is where the use of it will determine if the photo is a sucsess or a bad photo,

This image is a sucsess the image by Annie Leibovitz is a perfect example of Lighting 

Nicole Kidman is positioned so literally the spotlight is on her, it is a dramatic and glamorous photo

Her positioning is set up and unnatural but it looks stylish and effortless,

The way that the set is placed ensures that all eyes are on her as there is not much going on in the photos background as she is the focal point.

I like this photo as it is a classy simple photograph

Composition

Composition : This is how the photograph is organised and what the viewpoint is for the person looking at the photo, when composing a photograph you have to make sure that the main object is the main object and there is not something else in the way that will distract the viewers eye.It is the placement or the arrangement of the photo.


Here is two examples of a well composed photos:

The girls in both of these are both the main centre point and there is nothing else that is in the way to distract the viewers eye. They are simple but effective photos.

First Analysis

Factual : This image is by Vee Speers, Speers is an Australian photographer living in Paris.She studied photography in Brisbane.

Context: This is in the collection , The Birthday Party which features children in a simple background but shows drama and fantasy through it in an interesting way.

Technical - i think that this was either shot in a studio or by a wall , i think she used a DSLR camera and maybe shot it more than once , I think that she used a flash.

Aesthetic - I like this image as it it simple but at the same time shows charisma, and something that draws you in..
